New York Post Pg. 6

This was in the New York Post last week on Page 6....

.......

From Huffington Post:

A cartoon likening the author of the stimulus bill, perhaps President Barack Obama, with a rabid chimpanzee graced the pages of the New York Post on Wednesday.

The drawing, from famed cartoonist Sean Delonas, is rife with violent imagery and racial undertones. In it, two befuddled-looking police officers holding guns look over the dead and bleeding chimpanzee that attacked a woman in Stamford, Connecticut.

"They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill," reads the caption.

An email to Delonas and a call to the New York Post went unreturned. The cartoon appears both on the New York Post website and page 12 of the Wednesday paper.

At its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it. Others believe it compares the president to a rabid chimp. Either way, the incorporation of violence and (on a darker level) race into politics is bound to be controversial.

Rev. Al Sharpton has weighed in on the cartoon in a statement:
"The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

"Being that the stimulus bill has been the first legislative victory of President Barack Obama (the first African American president) and has become synonymous with him it is not a reach to wonder are they inferring that a monkey wrote the last bill?"

Wow what a great video directed by So-Me, ciddled fear anyone?

The Foot Fist Way

Until last night, I wasn't that sold on Danny McBride. His style of humor, the redneck with the random Ferrel-esque outbursts, seemed tired and conventional at this point in cinema. The pilot for his new HBO show, East Bound and Down, was hilarious, but his stuck-up, narcissistic, delusional-ass character struck me as something that would get lame after a full, or maybe a half, season.

I get it. Now having seen the Foot Fist Way, the low-budget indie that got McBride the A-list attention he currently receives, I understand why everyone's on board with this hick douchebag: he's actually half-brilliant. His character in Foot Fist, Tae Kwon Do instructor and 4th degree black belt, Fred Simmons, is a truly original character. He is the king of his castle, the strip-mall karate dojo where he teaches kids and senior citizens alike (and with equal vigor), but respects it enough not to make a mockery of it. In fact, much of the humor of the film comes from Simmons obsession with honor, respect, and the code of conduct of "TDK." He is a gross man, deeply insecure, lecherous, and self-abusive (look at him, he's a fat piece of shit), but the film sells his deep love for karate to the extent that it makes him the most endearing character in the film. You really grow to like this nasty son of a bitch as he deals with his cheating, white-trash wife, the cocky Chuck Norris doppelganger Chuck "The Truck" Wallace, and the pressures of maintaining "self-control," by maintaining his mentor status to his students while not revealing how big of an ass he really is.

I love how low-key the humor is. In an era where big-budget, star and cameo-laden comedies are all the rage, it was nice to see a hilarious film in which there are no stars, no nudge-nudge in-jokes, and few direct references to other films. The karate theme opens the door for Simmons to give diatribes about JCVD, Seagal, or any other famous martial artist. But alas, aside from a brief Bruce Lee reference and the aforementioned Chuck Norris character, this world is entirely self-contained, while still being completely subversive, with-it, and hilarious. I knew I'd like this movie, but damn, I didn't think I'd like it this much. It is a breath of fresh air in the comedy realm, and makes me hope for great things out of both East Bound and Down and the rest of Mr. McBride's career. He's got a wicked, original sense of humor, and a heart, but damned if he'd ever let that show; what's the point when you can just do an AIDS or rape joke instead?

Oh, and having taken years of Tiger Schulmann's karate, I can attest that director Jody Hill and McBride perfectly capture the lame, half-desperate half-bored nature of such a karate class, and the embarrassingly devout passion the sensei's and senior members possess towards their trade. I recommend it whole-fartedly.

Video Madness: SMD-Synthesise, Indiana Jones, Proper Trailer/JOTS - Baggy Bottom Boys/Detroit Love Dilla

Simian Mobile Disco...new material.....all i need to say really...

From Slashfilm.com : "I have this theory that most of the bad parts of Crystal Skull were ideas that George Lucas demanded be included, and Spielberg relented under the condition that the marketing for the film would reveal very little of the film’s plot. I’m pretty sure that Spielberg realized the audiences wouldn’t react positively to the alien elements in particular."

Zombie Nation - Worth It

Zombie Nation - Worth It from Zombie Nation on Vimeo.

Fanboys

Fanboys is awesome if you're into Star Wars, or anything geeky for that matter. It is about the devotion to a culture that is not accepted by modern society, and the unique friendships that can come through such a devotion. The plot of the movie is that in '99, Chris Marquette is a hard core Star Wars geek who is dying of cancer, so his friends decide to go to Skywalker Ranch and steal a print of Episode 1 before it's released a.k.a. Marquette bites it. The dynamics between the friends are really legit, and the fact that their quest is all about a gift to the dying friend is quite touching. The comedy's awesome, with a whole range of Star Wars in-jokes, from the random sound FX to the appearance of familiar faces to the geek universe.

My huge problem with the film is it's first act. The producers (wizards of taste Bob and Harvey Weinstein) obviously had a huge problem with the films marginalized marketability and hacked it from the inside out. Granted, they have re-inserted the controversial cancer subplot, thanks to a vigorous online campaign of people who, mostly, had not even seen the film, but appreciated its central conceit (myself included). However, the introductory sequences of the film reek of a genial, boring teen movie, and avoid references to Star Wars so advertantly that the stormtrooper outfits and wookie noises become elephants in the room, so to speak. It is hard to believe that the film began like this before the Weinsteins got their hands on it, especially considering the spot-on referential tone of the rest of the movie. Once the characters are on the road, and the cameos and high-concept gags start rolling in, the film really picks up and becomes something special, the best love letter to fandom and geek culture since Free Enterprise (a particular favorite of yours truly). You just have to get past the economically-minded plodding of those who, undoubtedly, completely don't get the subject matter, and the good bits truly do prove waiting for. And Kristen Bell looks awesome in the Slave Leia outfit.

I kno I'm supposed to keep it to a one post a day limit but....

this shit is just too good.......
1st is a trailer for a sick new movie called:

Its about 8 DJs on literally a radio pirate boat. And i guess the uk equivalent of the FCC is tryna shut em down. Cast is reely num, Murray from flight of the conchords rhys darby, Kenneth braugnaugh cwazes, Nick Frost (simon peggs bitch), Bill "The Vampire King" Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman cwazes and that guy who played little nicky's older brother and the alcoholic football kicker in that keanu reevesxgene hackman film The Replacements. looks dope...

2nd Is a RIDICULOUS mix by 2manydjs aka Steph and Dave Daewaele:

The brains and driving force of soulwax and nite versions. If you aren't familiar with any of these names you should be as they have been doing some of the most famous remixes around. (daft punk, gorillaz, justice, boys noize, and most recently that monster Kids mgmt remix.) They are very good friends with many people in this "scene" or w/e; lcd soundsystem, tiga, ed banger crew and lots of others. These guys are incredible have been around for almost more than 15 years, putting out loads of long mix cds as well as studio albums and remix projects. I was recently blown away with their documentary Part of the Weekend Never Dies. They are truly a couple of the godfathers of this "new rave", "new Disco" genre. They are due out with another remix album soon...but they took over Rob Da Bank's Weekly radio show on BBC radio 1...It was a 2 hour show with 2 one hour mixes.

The first: Introversy - 420 intros in 60 minutes....... DOWNLOAD
What can i say.... this is epic, i have an old 2manydjs intro set which is 20 minutes and damn good but this is fucking divine. This is so well put together and sounds soo dank. It truly shows the scope of what i think a REAL dj(s) should have...

The Second hour is a very solid Disco Mix, so download this shit and let your speakers rip...
